Public health officials remind us daily that the impact of COVID-19 has not yet peaked in Seattle. Even before Governor Inslee’s mandated directives, Seattle Men’s Chorus & Seattle Women’s Chorus announced the postponement of a concert, the cancellation of a long-awaited singer retreat, and the rescheduling of a major fundraiser event. We took these actions to protect the health of our singers, our audiences, and our community.
In light of current events, we have made the necessary decision to suspend the remainder of our 2019-2020 season. This includes Seattle Women’s Chorus in Supreme, Seattle Men’s Chorus in Motown: Dancing in the Street, and the previously postponed Love Beyond Borders with SMC.
As guidelines and mandates on social distancing continue to be a moving target, it is simply not feasible for our organization to plan for such significantly sized gatherings, nor for our community choruses to have the necessary amount of rehearsal time to prepare the music according to the standards that you expect from us. We have been unable to rehearse for the past month and do not anticipate that changing in the coming weeks or even months.
As we have been kept apart from each other and from you, our supporters, we have worked hard to keep the joy of music present through community sing-alongs, virtual gatherings, and video performances. We look ahead with renewed determination to the 2020-2021 season, crafting plans for how best to come back together as a community during what will be a time of healing and revitalization. We are excited to share that information with you as soon as we can!
Current ticket holders will receive direct communication with options on how to reallocate the value of tickets.
We celebrate the resilience of the human spirit. During difficult times, there are individuals who choose to take risks to help others, who offer comfort, who cook, sew, sing, dance, create and cheer each other onward – people in our neighborhoods, across the country and around the world. What might you like to give today to invest in our future? A phone call to someone who is alone? A heartfelt thank you to a grocery clerk or delivery person? And perhaps a donation to Seattle Choruses?
Let’s remain positive during challenging times. Stay safe, be well, stay strong! Together, we rise.
– Seattle Choruses
